Herbert Ploberger

Herbert Ploberger (born April 6, 1902 in Wels , Austria-Hungary , † January 22, 1977 in Munich ) was an Austrian painter of the New Objectivity, costume designer , set designer and set designer .

Live and act

Ploberger received his theoretical training after the end of the First World War at the Vienna School of Applied Arts and in Paris. From 1927 he completed his knowledge in Berlin under the chief stage designer of the German Theater , Ernst Stern .

He took up his professional activity as a set painter, later as a set designer at the Reinhardt Theaters under Stern's guidance. Ploberger was also active as a painter, who created portraits and still lifes in the New Objectivity style .

Luis Trenker brought him to film in 1933 as a costume designer. During the war years he was repeatedly in this function to elaborate, tendentious history films involved. After the end of the war, he designed the buildings for two Austrian films before returning to work as a costume designer for German productions from 1950. He was also active on the stage, for example for the Theater in der Josefstadt and for the Salzburg Festival .

Ploberger was married to the film architect Isabella Ploberger in the 1940s .
