Herbie Goins

Hubert Leroy "Herbie" Goins (born February 21, 1939 in Ocala , Florida ; † October 27, 2015 in Latina , Italy) was an American singer of rhythm & blues and soul music . He became known in Great Britain, where he performed with Alexis Korner and with his Night-Timers . Later he worked from Italy.

Goins grew up in Florida, where he sang in the Baptist Church choir as a child before forming his own blues band , The Teen Kings . He then moved to New York, where he appeared in opening acts for BB King , Bobby Bland and Sam Cooke . Then he did his military service in Germany, where he met Edwin Starr . After his discharge from the US Army , he joined Eric Delaney's band , with whom he went to Great Britain. There he worked for Chris Barber in 1963 and then sang in Korners Blues Incorporated . In 1964 he was there with Dick Heckstall-Smith , Art Subjects and Danny Thompson involved in the recording of the two albums Live at the Cavern and Red Hot from Alex .

From 1965 Goins worked with the Night Timers , who had lost their singer Ronnie Jones; the group included the wind players Harry Beckett and Mick Eve, organist Mike Carr , bassist Dave Price and Bill Stephens and Speedy Acquaye on drums and percussion. In 1966 Goins covered with the Night-Timers No. 1 In Your Heart for Parlophones . Goins and his band, which now also includes guitarist John McLaughlin , toured with Otis Redding that same year . They also played with Jimi Hendrix and John Lee Hooker . An album was released under the title Soul Soul Soul or No. 1 In Your Heart . In the late 1960s, the band teamed up with Mick Weavers Wynder K Frog , then worked in Italy until 1971, where Goins stayed.

Goins worked in Italy as a songwriter and music producer. In the 1980s he released some fun recordings such as You Don't Love Me and Scrap Rap (1983), Hold On (1984) and I Feel Good (1986). He also worked with the blues guitarist Guido Toffoletti, with whom he recorded several albums. From the end of the 1980s he performed with his Herbie Goins Soul Band at festivals in Europe and North America. There were also concerts with Barber and Heckstall-Smith. In 2009 he was touring the UK with Cliff Bennett , Chris Farlowe and Norman Beaker . He also led a gospel group in Italy, the Stars of Joy .
