Herbicide safeners

Herbicide safeners are chemical compounds that increase the herbicide tolerance of monocotyledon crops. They often work by increasing glutathione-S-transferase activity. To increase the selectivity, they are used together with the corresponding herbicides.

A distinction is made between seed, soil and leaf safeners:

Seed safeners are applied as a dressing before sowing, soil ( pre-emergence ) and leaf safeners ( post-emergence ) are applied together with the herbicide.
