content

Hermes, messenger of the gods, who has just negotiated with Prometheus, comes back to Olympus. When the discussion turns to Odysseus, Poseidon gets excited about the blinding of Polyphems. Zeus then sends Hercules on a journey to punish Odysseus. He is in love with Helena, who was promised to another and therefore unhappy.

Odysseus is attacked and kidnapped by the crew of a Phoenician ship on the sea route to Ithaca. He can free himself from the storeroom in which he is being held prisoner by means of a self-kindled fire and escape, while Hercules, the wire ornament of his capture, can only free himself from the burning bilge with muscle power. In his pursuit of Odysseus, who fled to the mainland, both birds are captured by bird men. Their queen Aria wants to have both executed.

During the execution ceremony, however, Hercules and Odysseus were able to flee by a lightning strike that hit the sacrificial tree and went to the kingdom of King Ircanus, with a hermit helping them. Odysseus outwits Hercules and moves on alone, but is captured by King Lago's cavemen. He keeps numerous girls for his pleasure. Odysseus proves Lago who he is. Meanwhile, Hercules seeks out Helena, whose father needs support against this lake.

Odysseus helps the girls to escape, fails when they try to let people fly and is thrown into dungeon by Lago for all their sake. In the battle of the troops of Irkanus, supported by Hercules, against Lagos cavemen, the good guys win and Odysseus can barely be saved from death by Hercules. Hercules and Helena are now united, but the angry Adastro (to whom she was promised) kidnaps her. Pursued by Odysseus, he has to fight off this and Hercules hurrying to it. The cooperation between the two appeases the gods: Hercules and Helena are allowed to make love, Odysseus can return home.

criticism

"Unnecessary screen adventures and vigorous muscle show that shows neither a sense of subtleties nor of history."

“It is true that one should not apply the yardstick of historical credibility to such film hams; however, a friendship between Hercules and Odysseus is a rather strong piece. In its historical dimension it corresponds approximately to a fighting community between Jung-Siegfried and Prinz Eugen against Mao-Tse Tung. "
