action

Helena and her father visit a cattle market when it is attacked. Darius, a friend of Hercules, preoccupies the attackers; Helena calls on Hercules, who solves the problem with physical strength. A trader tells him bad things about his 'Hercules', town of Ravenna, where the usurper Philip threatens the governor Gordianus so that his son Rhetius can marry his daughter Urpia.

On the way to his hometown, Hercules meets a messenger from the fiancé of Urpia, the general Quintus Trajanus, and saves him from the pursuers of Philip who follow him. Through a secret passage, Hercules arrives at his sister Arminia, who works as a maid at Urpia. Gordianus is murdered that night; Hercules is able to flee with Urpia - who has lost her memory over the horrors - and Arminia. They are tracked down in the hiding place, the tavern of Licilius, but manage to escape again.

Meanwhile Philip has been proclaimed governor of Ravenna; Adviser Argesus points out that Urpia is actually the rightful successor. Trajanus, who has arrived in the meantime, does not believe when he is told of the intrigues, and rides on to Pannonia, where he is to become governor. He is attacked by the muggers around Rhodius and found by Hercules. Philip has been informed of the whereabouts by a seer and sends Mansurius, the murderer of Gordianus, there with soldiers to plunder all of Pannonia.

Darius is injured when he meets the troops, whereupon Helena, blind with fear for her lover, confides in Rhodius, who, however, makes a pact with Mansurius. Urpia is kidnapped; Hercules kills Rhodius but is captured. Trajanus, nursed back to health by Urpia, turns to Ravenna. There she has meanwhile agreed to the wedding in order to protect the companions; Hercules, sitting in prison, is updated by Argesus. He breaks out and kidnaps Urpia. Philip and Trajanus' armies now clash; the usurper is defeated and Trajanus can now marry Urpia.

criticism

"The plot is as primitive as the art of playing the bicep-wearing athlete."

The lexicon of international film writes: "Series piece from the Italian antique cinema"

Mymovies: "The direction is decent and conventional, the story artificial and tedious, the whole thing implemented modestly."

Even the evangelical film observer does not think much of the film: “Historicizing muscleman film that is more harmless and boring than exciting and dangerous. Superfluous."

Remarks

In France, Hercules became Samson ( Samson contre tous ).
