Hermann Borghorst
Hermann Borghorst (born July 14, 1947 in Haren (Ems) ) is a former German politician ( SPD ). From 1991 to 2001 he was a member of the Berlin House of Representatives .
Life
Borghorst was born in Haren in what was then the Polish occupation zone and is the eighth child of a boat builder . He attended a secondary school there and then a high school in Meppen . After graduating from high school in 1966, he served as a contract soldier in the German Armed Forces for two years . He studied political science at the Otto Suhr Institute of the Free University of Berlin (FU Berlin) and at the Institut d'études politiques de Paris . Borghorst graduated from the Free University of Berlin with a degree in political science in 1973. As a doctoral student, he also studied at Tulane University in New Orleans and received his doctorate in 1978 under Hellmut Wollmann (FU Berlin) on the subject of the mutual dependence of federal and local governments in urban redevelopment policy in the United States of America.
He then stayed in research for some time before working from 1981 to 1985 as an employee of the SPD parliamentary group in the Berlin House of Representatives. He switched to the trade union area and until 1990 headed the economics department at the Berlin DGB district. Then he was a member of the district management of the IG Chemie-Papier-Keramik (IG CPK), Brandenburg-Saxony district. In 1997 the IG CPK was incorporated into the new IG Bergbau, Chemie, Energie (IG BCE), and Borghorst became the deputy head of the Northeast District. In 2001 he left the House of Representatives and moved to Lausitzer Braunkohle AG . Most recently, he was Chief Human Resources Officer in two subsidiaries of Vattenfall AG .
His wife has been the former Berlin State Secretary Helga Korthaase since 1997 . He retired on July 31, 2009 and was then chairman of the Lusatia Economic Initiative lobbying association until 2014.
politics
Borghorst joined the SPD in 1970 and in the same year co-founded the local SPD association Haren. From 1987 to 2001 he was a member of the board of directors of the SPD in the Berlin district of Neukölln and in 1989 became chairman of the local SPD association in Hermannstrasse , and in 2000 he was succeeded by Fritz Felgentreu , a member of the Bundestag .
In the Berlin House of Representatives moved Borghorst in February 1991 after, as Klaus Löhe Secretary was. In the 1995 Berlin election , Borghorst became deputy parliamentary group chairman and economic policy spokesman for the SPD parliamentary group. After the 1999 election he ran for parliamentary group chairman, but Klaus Wowereit achieved a majority in the SPD parliamentary group. A year later, Borghorst tried to become regional chairman of the SPD Berlin , but Senator Peter Strieder prevailed.
On March 31, 2001 he resigned from parliament because of the move to the economy, his successor was Petra Hildebrandt .
