Hermann Friedrich Beckh

Hermann Friedrich Jakob Beckh (born August 13, 1806 in Schwabach ; † August 25, 1886 at Rathsberg Castle near Erlangen ) was a German lawyer and politician .

Life

Beckh was born in 1806 as the son of a businessman and after attending grammar school in Nuremberg, studied law in Erlangen and Heidelberg . During his studies he became a member of the old Heidelberg fraternity in 1825 , and later in 1880 an honorary member of the Bubenruthia Erlangen fraternity .

1827–30 he was a legal intern at the Royal District Court of Nuremberg. After his marriage on May 12, 1830 to Mathilde von Wahler (* June 26, 1810, † December 28, 1854) he retired into private life, but was involved in many public matters. In winter he lived with his family in Nuremberg, in summer on the country estate of his father-in-law 's Atzelsberg Castle . In 1869 he acquired the Rathsberg Castle Estate from his in-laws and repaired it from the ground up. After the death of his first wife, he married Sophie Cella (1828–1913) on June 29, 1857.

He founded and managed the Nuremberg rescue center and in 1843 took over the management of preparations for the 110th anniversary of the Erlangen university. He founded the Jubilee Scholarship Foundation of the University of Erlangen and was awarded an honorary doctorate (Dr. jur. Hc.). He was also a member of the administrative committee at the Germanisches Nationalmuseum and was active in establishing the German fleet and on the Schleswig-Holstein question. From 1875 to 1877 he was a member of the Bavarian Chamber of Deputies .

His sons were the politicians Friedrich Beckh and Hermann Beckh .
