Hermann Losch

Hermann Julius Losch (born January 16, 1863 in Murrhardt ; † December 10, 1935 in Stuttgart ) was a German Protestant clergyman , university professor , economist , statistician and president of the Württemberg Statistical Office in Stuttgart.

Career

After attending elementary and grammar school in Murrhardt he studied in Tubingen seminary theology and joined the Tübingen King Company Roigel at. He finished his studies in economics , which he began at this time , in 1887 with his award-winning dissertation on ways and means of measuring national wealth and national income.

After working as the private secretary of the Reichstag member Gustav Siegle , he became pastor administrator in Oberlenningen in 1889 . However, he was replaced in the same year, completed his habilitation as a private lecturer at the Technical University of Stuttgart in 1893 and then became an employee of the State Statistical Office. In addition to his work initially as a real finance councilor, regional finance councilor, director and from 1922 President of the State Statistical Office until 1930, he was a lecturer in economics at the Agricultural University in Hohenheim.

Through his acquaintance with Herman Hollerith , he recognized the technical progress of the patented mechanical counting aid and was the first German to use this invention in the German census of December 1, 1910.

His teaching activities, most recently as a full honorary professor at the University of Tübingen from 1908 , as well as his more than 40 specialist publications have received numerous recognition through membership in European associations and the International Statistical Institute .

Losch was granted honorary citizenship of his hometown Murrhardt on January 17, 1923 . He was buried in the forest cemetery in Degerloch .
