Hermann Pauly

Hermann Pauly (born July 18, 1870 in Deutz , † October 31, 1950 in Würzburg ) was a German chemist and inventor.

Life

After graduating from high school Adolfinum Moers , Pauly studied natural sciences at the Hessian Ludwig University , the University of Leipzig and the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn . After he had been a fox in the Corps Lusatia Leipzig in the winter semester 1889/90 , he became active in the Corps Teutonia Bonn in 1890. In Bonn he dedicated himself to chemistry . With a doctoral thesis with Richard Anschütz , he became Dr. phil. PhD .

Afterwards for a short time at Schering AG in Berlin, he went as a research assistant to Emil Fischer at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität zu Berlin . He switched to Rudolf Nietzki at the University of Basel as a teaching assistant . He returned to Bonn, where he completed his habilitation in 1901 . In 1904 he went to Albrecht Kossel at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg . That same year he pursued his Habilitation at the University of Würzburg , in 1909 to associate professor appointed. After he had his own laboratory in 1912, he was appointed full professor in 1918 . He wrote 71 publications on organic chemistry and physiological chemistry . Of his 14 patents , the Pauly reaction and the production of artificial silk from tetraammine copper sulfate (Pauly silk, also cupro or copper silk ) gained particular importance. In 1922 he became

Corps ribbon carrier of the Lusatia Leipzig (1922). She awarded him the ribbon on November 3, 1929.

He was married to Maria von Mosengeil, daughter of Karl von Mosengeil .
