Hermann Rumschöttel (historian)

Hermann Rumschöttel (born August 26, 1941 in Bad Reichenhall ) is a German archivist and historian. From 1997 to the end of February 2008 he was Director General of the Bavarian State Archives .

Life

Rumschöttel studied history, German, geography and philosophy at the universities of Munich (LMU) and Hamburg between 1963 and 1968 . After the first state examination in 1968, he trained as a scientific archivist from 1970 to 1973 at the Bavarian Archive School in Munich . During this time he received his doctorate in 1972 at the LMU on The Bavarian Officer Corps , 1866-1914 . In 1973 he passed the second state examination.

Rumschöttel then worked as an archivist at the Bavarian Main State Archives from 1973 to 1975 . In 1975 he took over a position in the general management of the Bavarian State Archives. In 1995 he was appointed director of the Bavarian Main State Archives. Since 1997 he has been Director General of the Bavarian State Archives. In the same year he took over an honorary professorship for history at the University of the Bundeswehr in Munich .

From 1985 to 1993 Rumschöttel was chairman of the Association of German Archivists . He also served as the second mayor of his hometown Neubiberg between 1984 and 1996 . Until the end of 2014, he was also the second chairman of the Commission for Bavarian State History at the Bavarian Academy of Sciences . In the constituent meeting of the municipal council on May 6, 2008, he was re-elected as the second mayor and was therefore the acting head of the town hall until the first mayor was elected.

Hermann Rumschöttel with Johanna Rumschöttel (born Breu), district administrator of the district of Munich , married from 2008 to 2014 and the couple have six children.
