Hermann Vermehren

Carl Christian Hermann Vermehren (born April 18, 1792 in Güstrow ; † April 12, 1858 ibid) was a German Evangelical Lutheran theologian, consistorial councilor and superintendent in Mecklenburg.

Life

Hermann Vermehren came from the Güstrow branch of the Vermehren family . He was a son of the pastor at the parish church of St. Marien (Güstrow) August Arnold Vermehren (born November 11, 1739 in Lübeck, † January 15, 1807 in Güstrow). August Vermehren († 1855), pastor of the Güstrow parish church, was his brother.

Vermehren attended the cathedral school in Güstrow and studied at the University of Greifswald from 1807 . In 1811 he was the respondent to a disputation chaired by Johann Ernst Parow . In Greifswald he was one of the founders of the Corps Pomerania Greifswald in 1810 , after which he was also active in Rostock in the Corps Vandalia Rostock in 1811 .

In 1812 he became a collaborator at the cathedral school in Güstrow, in 1813 its sub-principal and in 1814 its vice-principal. In 1829 he was appointed cathedral preacher at Güstrow Cathedral . As a cathedral preacher, he also taught at the cathedral school until 1839; then as superintendent he was her scholarch . He also worked on the directory of the school's primary students with details of their whereabouts, which appeared in the 1853 anniversary program.

From April 1839, Hermann Vermehren was superintendent of the Güstrow superintendent. He was active as a church leader in various tasks. In 1844 he became the first chairman of the newly established examination commission for the First Theological Exam ( Tentamen pro licentia concionandi ) in Mecklenburg-Schwerin . In 1849 he was a member of the commission for the drafting of a church constitution, whose plans for a synodal constitution were destroyed by the Freienwalder arbitration award . On December 28, 1857, Grand Duke Friedrich Franz II appointed him consistorial councilor and assessor in the grand ducal consistory in Rostock .

Adolf Fuchs dedicated his novel Robert to him in 1842 .

Since May 28, 1813 he was married to Charlotte, b. Richter († May 26, 1874), a daughter of the surgeon Richter in Güstrow. The couple's children included Carl Vermehren, Privy Councilor in Güstrow; Franz (August Wilhelm) Martin Vermehren, senior teacher at the Güstrow Cathedral School; Adolf, citizen in Güstrow; Emilie (* 1823), wife of the Güstrow secondary school teacher Ernst Breem (1815–1874); Luise (* 1825), married to the lawyer and councilor August Heinrich Ludwig Voss (1802–1858), and Hermine (* 1836), married to the lawyer and Güstrow city councilor Paul Viereck (1830–1895).

His extensive private library was sold after his death.
