Hermann Westhoff the Younger (born November 6, 1635 in Lübeck ; † December 15, 1696 ibid) was a German Evangelical Lutheran clergyman and chief pastor at St. Jakobi in Lübeck.

Life

He was a son of the same name Lübeck city physician Hermann Westhoff and his wife Magdalena, geb. Rodbart. After visiting the Katharineum in Lübeck , he studied Protestant theology at the universities of Rostock , Gießen and Leipzig from 1652 . In Gießen he responded to three disputations in 1657/58, chaired by Kaspar Ebel and David Christiani , and graduated with a master's degree .

After the death of his brother, the doctor Heinrich Westhoff, he returned to Lübeck in 1671, where he was appointed preacher of the St. Johannis Monastery . From 1691 until his death he was the main pastor of the Jakobikirche. A full-length portrait of a pastor in the tower hall of St. Jakobi reminds of him. However, he was not buried here, but in a newly acquired family grave in St. Katharinen .

Enoch Svantenius gave his funeral speech, which was also printed.

He was married to Christina, b. Sandhagen. One daughter, Catharina Elisabeth († 1712), married the pastor Christoph Rohn .
