Hermann von Liebenau (born October 3, 1807 in Knutwiler Bad ; † July 28, 1874 in Lucerne ) was a Swiss historian, writer and doctor.

Life

He was a son of Freiherr Joseph von Laßberg and the widowed Princess Elisabeth zu Fürstenberg . After the birth he was given to the doctor Philipp Lüthard in Reiden as a foster son. After studying at German and Austrian universities, he obtained a doctorate from the University of Bern in 1836. med. He was literary active on historical subjects, especially the Old Confederation . After two long stays at Eppishausen Castle with his father, he came to Lucerne in 1837. From 1855 to 1860 he was a senior physician in the Roman military service . After some writings on the history of the day, of which in particular: The April walk of the Freischaaren performed in the year 1845 towards Lucerne , already in the title clearly outlines the political view of the author, Liebenau turned to medieval history. Hermann von Liebenau also occasionally worked as a fiction writer in magazines. He was married to Jakobea Pfyffer von Altishofen .

As a doctor, he looked after his father's sister-in-law, the poet Annette von Droste-Hülshoff, at Meersburg Castle until her death on May 24, 1848.
