Location of Herringhausen in Enger

Herringhausen is a district of Enger in the Herford district in northeast North Rhine-Westphalia . To the east, the Herringhausen district of Herford is directly connected to Enger-Herringhausen. The Engers district is also called Herringhausen (West) to distinguish it from the Herford district of the same name . Herringhausen formed an independent municipality until 1968 and was divided on January 1, 1969 between the two cities of Herford and Enger.

history

The place is mentioned for the first time as Hetheredingusen in a deed of donation from 1151. Herringhausen appears in the Ravensburger Urbar from 1556 with 23 courtyards. The main axis of the place is the old trade route from Herford to Osnabrück , which is now called Engerstrasse. Herringhausen formed its own municipality in the Herford district until 1968 . In the course of the territorial reform , which came into force on January 1, 1969, the place was divided. The western part became Enger (legal successor), the eastern part Herford.

population

Herringhausen-West currently has around 450 inhabitants and is therefore significantly smaller than Herringhausen in Herford.
