Herschel Burke Gilbert

Herschel Burke Gilbert (born April 20, 1918 in Milwaukee , Wisconsin , † June 8, 2003 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American conductor and composer of film music who was nominated three times for an Oscar .

biography

Gilbert began as a conductor with the film Song of Mexico in 1945 and was responsible for the music of around 150 films and television series as a composer and conductor in the course of his career in the Hollywood film industry .

At the Academy Awards in 1953 he received his first nomination for an Oscar for best film music , namely for Ich bin ein Atomspion (1952). In 1954 he and the songwriter Sylvia Fine received an Oscar nomination for best song for " The Moon Is Blue " from the film Clouds Are Everywhere (1953) . Most recently, he was nominated at the Academy Awards in 1955 for the Oscar for best film music for Carmen Jones (1954).

Other well-known films and TV series with music composed by him were A Shredded Life (1956), The Bounty Hunter (1958), Richard Diamond, Private Detective (1959), West of Santa Fé (1959 to 1961), Tonight, Dick Powell (1961) as well as Amos Burke (1963 to 1966), A Thousand Miles of Dust (1964 to 1965), Perry Mason (1964 to 1965), Smoking Colts (1964 to 1965) and Gilligan's Island (1964 to 1965).
