Sam Whiskey is an American western comedy directed by Arnold Laven for Levy-Gardner-Laven production company and starring Burt Reynolds , Clint Walker and Ossie Davis .

action

Sam Whiskey is a smart guy, grew up in the back rooms of saloons and has a hand in hand, an all-round talent for every delicate job. One day the governor's widow Laura Breckinridge makes the rascal a spicy but tempting offer: For a fee of 20,000 dollars, Sam is supposed to recover gold bars worth a quarter of a million dollars stolen from a sunken river boat. But Sam Whiskey hesitates. He is supposed to rescue those gold bars from a sunken ship and bring them secretly back to the mint that Laura's dead husband had recently stolen ...? Time is of the essence because the gold has to be brought back before the theft is noticed on site. A hair-raising as well as ludicrous undertaking takes its course.

Reviews

“Rififi operates in the Wild West: three adventurers first have to recover stolen gold bars from the bottom of a river and then smuggle them back into the vault of a mint. An adventure story peppered with entertaining incidents in a careful, fast-paced and humorous staging. "

“A funny reversal of the Rififi recipe. The funniest part of the film isn't smuggling the gold into the coin, but rather salvaging it from the river, where the do-it-yourself know-how of the three adventurers is at its wildest. "

- Joe Hembus Western Lexicon

“The story [...] wants to poke fun at the serious Wild West film. In and of itself this is quite enjoyable fun, but it should be reserved for adults because of some scenes in which the inclusion of the killing of people in the cheerful representation is problematic. "
