Hessian journalist award

The Hessian Journalist Prize, endowed with a total of 12,000 euros, is intended to honor publicists who strive to strengthen the identity of Hesse . It was launched in 2006 by Sparda-Bank Hessen and DJV Hessen. Ulrich Kienzle is one of the members of the jury .

Award winners

  • 2006: The first award winner was Hans Riebsamen for his article “Bad words, good experiences in the once bitterly poor country”, which appeared in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung .
  • 2007: "Good words for Hessian personalities" was the motto of the competition. The first prizewinner was Yvonne Koch, who received an award for audio contributions about Wolf Schmidt, Ernst May and Johann Christian Senckenberg, broadcast on Hessischer Rundfunk . Other prizewinners were Gabriele Bock for the contribution "Margarete Mitscherlich turns 90" and Caren Birgit Langer for "Vegetables, forged passports and cyanide", published in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, broadcast on hr-fernsehen .
  • 2008: The first prize winner of the competition under the motto “Traveling through the region” was Jörg Stephan Carl, who received an award for the article “Vom Mehre und Mehren”, published in the Hessische / Niedersächsischen Allgemeine . Jan Grossarth (“That is freedom” / Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung), Thomas Klein (“Scary is the wrong word” / Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung), Tobias Lübben (“The great apple wine show” / Hessischer Rundfunk) and Barbara Petermann ( "The monastery café" / HR television)
  • 2009: The motto was " Hessian conditions come up for discussion". The main prize was won by TAZ reporter Georg Löwisch for a portrait of SPD politician Thorsten Schäfer-Gümbel under the title “The Winner”.   • 2010: The topic was the "Kulturland Hessen". Alex Westhoff won the main prize for a portrait of the Gravenbruch drive-in cinema that appeared in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung . Friedemann Kohler (“Individuals melt in a choir - it only sounds together” / German Press Agency ) and Annette Hausmanns (“Streiflichter from 100 years of Art Nouveau Theater Bad Nauheim” / Wetterauer Zeitung ) were awarded for their articles. The first prize in the photography category went to Hanna Cosse and Jan Baetz from the Hessische / Niedersächsische Allgemeine for their photos on the subject of “A virtual journey through old Kassel before it was destroyed on October 22, 1943”. The stock exchange expert Frank Lehmann received the honorary award for life's work to date, which was also awarded for the first time .
  • 2011: "Forming Hessen - means creating the future" was the motto. The first prize winner was Mona Jaeger for the article “Every school year can be the last”, published in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. Gaby Buschlinger ("Frau Herber, you, look" / Frankfurter Rundschau), Eva Keller ("One class, all classes" / people - the magazine ) and Matthias Trautsch for a series about school visits (Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung) received further prizes . In the photography category, Uwe Dettmar was awarded by the Goethe University in Frankfurt . Focus editor-in-chief Helmut Markwort received the honorary award for life's work to date .
  • 2012: The award ceremony for the competition with the motto "Football State of Hesse" took place in the Sparda Bank Hessen Stadium in Offenbach . The prizes in the print category went to Thorsten Gütling for his articles “Im Bus den Bayern nachher” and “Humba, Humba in Marseille”, published in the Weilburger Tageblatt , to Olaf Streubig (“Red Card for Violence” / Wiesbadener Kurier ) and to Stefan Weisbrod (“Where Middle Hessian and the penalty leg coast meet” / Oberhessische Presse ). In the photography category André Bethke was honored by the Weilburger Tageblatt for the picture “Teenage Torjubel”, a special prize went to Florian Hagemann and Marcus Janz (“Cup hit Kassel versus Offenbach: The great comparison of cities” / Hessische / Niedersächsische Allgemeine). The former ZDF sports presenter Dieter Kürten was honored with the honorary award for his life's work to date.
  • 2014: Holger Weinert was honored with a lifetime achievement award.
  • 2016: Werner D'Inka was awarded a prize for life's work to date.
  • 2017: The motto of the competition was "City / State in Hessen - Challenges of Different Developments". Julian Staib received first prize for his article Die neue Stadt , published in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung . The second prize went to Timo Lindemann, Martina Rathke and Sandra Trauner from the German Press Agency for their report City, Country, River - Between City Sound and Leaves , and the third prize went to Birgit Reuthe for her article Commitment for a Lively Village and Green or gray , appeared in the Odenwälder Echo . A special award for her series Giessen - a city is developing! received 14 journalists from the Gießener Anzeiger . The radio presenter Werner Reinke was awarded the honorary prize for his journalistic life's work to date.
  • 2018: The competition was under the motto "Living in Hessen - between housing shortages and vacancies". Theresa Weiß received first prize for her series Terraced House? No thanks in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung . Second place went to Alexandra Welsch for the series The situation on the housing market in Darmstadt in the Darmstädter Echo . The third prize went to Christoph Scheffer for his contribution How many square meters do people need? Affordable living in a Tiny House and 'Cubity' Frankfurt in hr-iNFO . The special prize went to journalists from the Gießener Anzeiger , who for a year covered life in the country in various articles. Helmut Reitze , former director of the Hessischer Rundfunk , was honored for his life's work to date.
  • 2019: The motto of the competition was "Social Sustainability in Hessen". The first prize went to Silvia Dahlkamp for her report Our village should continue to live in the magazine G + G Gesundheit und Gesellschaft . Second prize went to Christiane Kreiner and Karoline Sinur for the multimedia special Odenwälder Köpfe in hr2-kultur . Constanze Kleis got the third prize for her report The blooming city in the magazine MAINfeeling . The special award went to Sabrina Demon for her series Under One Roof in the Wetterauer Zeitung . Bascha Mika , editor-in-chief of the Frankfurter Rundschau , was honored for her life's work to date.
