Thomas Hettegger (born January 14, 1994 ) is a former Austrian ski racer . From 2015 he was a member of the B-team of the Austrian Ski Association and specialized in the technical disciplines of slalom and giant slalom .

biography

Thomas Hettegger comes from Wagrain in Salzburg and started for his home club.

Hettegger took part in two Junior World Championships , in 2015 in Hafjell he achieved a tenth place in the Super-G and an eleventh place in the slalom as the best results. With the team he won the silver medal. He won three national youth championship titles, in 2015 in giant slalom and in 2016 in slalom and combined .

Hettegger made his European Cup debut on January 19, 2013 in the giant slalom in Kirchberg . After numerous failures and non-qualifications, he scored 26th place for the first time in January 2016. He achieved his first result among the top ten a year later in Zell am See . On January 12, 2017, he celebrated his first European Cup victory in the second slalom ex aequo with Christian Hirschbühl and Leif Kristian Haugen .

Only three days after his first victory in the European Cup, he made his World Cup debut in the Wengen slalom , where he was eliminated in the first round. On December 22nd, 2017, he won World Cup points for the first time by finishing 16th in the night slalom in Madonna di Campiglio . At the end of the season he had a hard fall in a European Cup giant slalom in Berchtesgaden , tearing the anterior cruciate ligament , the patellar tendon , the medial ligament and both menisci in his right knee. He ended his career in May 2020.
