Jerome Pol

Hieronymus Pol , called Hero (born November 3, 1852 in Norden (East Friesland) , † February 3, 1911 in Groningen , Netherlands ) was a German-Dutch teacher , Germanist and university professor .

Life

Pol was in 1852 as the son of a Dutch Mennonites - preacher born in the East Frisian North. After graduating from high school in Osnabrück, he studied mathematics at the Georg August University in Göttingen , where he became a member of the association and later fraternity of Holzminda on April 22, 1874 . But since he gradually became more interested in literary studies and philosophy , he passed his exam as a German teacher in the Netherlands and then went to a school in Sappemeer near Groningen. Later he came to Gouda as a teacher , where he taught at the grammar school and at the high school . In 1892 he went to the grammar school in Groningen as a high school teacher to teach German . In 1901 he moved to the University of Groningen , where he was appointed associate professor for New High German literature . He worked here until his death in 1911.
