High Lonesome Sound is the eighth studio album by the American country musician Vince Gill . It was released on May 28, 1996 under the label MCA Nashville. The second version of High Lonesome Sound was orchestrated and recorded with Alison Krauss & Union Station.

Allmusic critic Thom Jurek awarded three out of five possible rating units for the album. Chicago Tribune's Gary Dretzka awarded High Lonesome Sound three out of four stars . Richard Cromelin of the Los Angeles Times awarded the album three out of four points and rated it as "good". Entertainment Weekly critic Tony Scherman gave the album a "B-" rating.

The album peaked at number 24 on the Billboard 200 and third on the Billboard Country Albums chart. In Canada, the album ranked 45th and fifth on the RPM album and country charts. The single High Lonesome Sound reached number one on the Canadian country charts and number 12 on Billboard Country Songs . The other four releases reached the following positions in the US and Canadian country singles charts: Worlds Apart (# 5, # 6), Pretty Little Adriana (# 2, # 3), You and You Alone (# 8, # 8), A Little More Love ranks 2nd, 6th and 56th on the RPM Singles Chart.
