Hilde Schürk-Frisch: Schutzmantelmadonna , Herten (1978)

Hildegard "Hilde" Schürk-Frisch (born June 23, 1915 in Ennigerloh ; † March 25, 2008 in Münster ) was a German sculptor .

Life

Hilde (Hildegard) Schürk-Frisch had already had lessons in sculpture during her school days and then studied at the Art Academy in Munich and at the University of Fine Arts in Berlin . During the war, a mother-child sculpture whose title was Not the indignation of NS raised -hörigen press. Since the end of the Second World War , she - a soldier's widow with three children - worked as a freelance artist in Münster. Her daughter Brigitte Beil worked as a journalist and book author.

She became known for her figures and sculptures made of stone, wood and especially bronze, inspired by stories from the Bible and saints .

In 1942 she received the Jung-Westphalia Art Prize, in 1952 the Karl Ernst Osthaus Prize of the City of Hagen, and in 1962 the Art Prize of the Beckum District.

Her work includes expressive portrait heads, diverse figurations of people playing, reflecting, grieving or loving, tombs and garden sculptures as well as large monuments and memorials in public spaces.

She has created numerous individual works, from Stations of the Cross to entire designs of choir and altar rooms for Catholic and Protestant churches. In 1978 the sculpture “Schutzmantelmadonna” was installed on the Herten sculpture trail .

In 2005 a sculpture park was set up in the garden of the seminary ("Leokonvikt") of the Archdiocese of Paderborn with 14 sculptures from the life's work and a robe was documented in the book The Invisible .

In the 1960s she was a member of the liturgy commission of the German Bishops' Conference and of the Joint Synod of the Dioceses of the Federal Republic of Germany ( Würzburg Synod ).

The Museum Abtei Liesborn provides those interested in art history with written material (including newspaper clippings with exhibition reviews) and an illustrated work chronology.

As a permanent loan from the artistic estate of Hilde Schürk-Frisch, the Vinnenberg Monastery has eleven smaller and larger sculptures for conferences and seminars.

Another room with a number of important works from the artist's estate is being built in the social institute Kommende Dortmund of the Archdiocese of Paderborn . Both places are open to the public.
