Hilde Wagener
Hilde Wagener , actually Brunhilde Karoline Katharia Wagener , (born September 26, 1904 in Hanover , † December 16, 1992 in Baden near Vienna ) was a German-Austrian theater and film actress .
Life
Wagener attended a commercial school and then the Gerda Töchterheim boarding school near Berlin. After training as an actor with Anna Uhlig in Berlin, she made her stage debut at the Deutsches Theater Hannover . Then she went to Vienna, where she played on the Vienna stage and at the Renaissance theater .
In 1923, Hilde Wagener made her film debut in the feature film The Alley of Love and Sin . From 1924 to 1990 she was a member of the Burgtheater ensemble , later an honorary member. In 1933 she received the professional title of chamber actress .
After the annexation of Austria in 1938, she advertised the upcoming referendum with the words: “ I am aware that we owe this miracle to our Führer Adolf Hitler! ". During the Nazi era, contrary to what is sometimes rumored, she was not subject to any professional ban , but continued to play at the Burgtheater during the Second World War . She also worked as a nurse at the Vienna General Hospital from 1942 to 1945 .
After the Second World War, she was mainly involved in the theater, but also played in films like Sissi . In 1949 Wagener first founded a self-help group for artist colleagues in need, then in 1955 the association Artists help artists .
Hilde Wagener was married to the actor Otto Tressler (1871-1965) since October 1928 , her stepson Georg Tressler (1917-2007) became a well-known director.
