Hildebrand Giseler Rumann (* 1568 in Göttingen ; † March 13, 1631 in Hanover ) was a German lawyer and Brunswick court councilor.

Life

Rumann attended the pedagogy in his hometown from 1586. He studied law in Erfurt , from 1587 in Helmstedt , from 1592 in Jena and from 1594 in Heidelberg . After receiving his doctorate in law, Rumann was appointed court and consistorial councilor in Wolfenbüttel in 1598 . As the envoy of Duke Heinrich Julius von Wolfenbüttel , Rumann took part in numerous imperial assemblies in Regensburg . In 1609 he was appointed to the council and he became assessor at the court in Wolfenbüttel.

From 1623 until his death Rumann held the office of Grand Bailiff zu Calenberg , based in Hanover. During the Thirty Years' War Rumann's house in Göttingen was plundered by imperial troops led by General Tilly . Therefore, Rumann turned in vain to Duke Friedrich Ulrich von Braunschweig , so that he could lobby for the return of his valuable library . When the city was occupied again, the duke warned the Goettingen magistrate about burdening Rumann's house with the billeting of military troops, "because the owner Doctor juris and therefore, like a nobleman, was free from such burdens" . Until his death, Rumann did a great deal of work to alleviate war damage in Göttingen and Hanover.

After his death, his wife was still in dire financial straits, as Rumanns Gut Bösinghausen near Göttingen and other possessions could no longer earn any income as a result of the Thirty Years' War .

Rumann was married three times, the third marriage since 1617 with Anna Maria geb. Wecke (1599–1659), daughter of the court councilor of Count Palatine Reichard von Pfalz-Simmern and later syndic of the city of Hanover, Bartold Wecke (1565–1607).

Rumann's son Joachim Christoph Rumann (the elder, 1627–1682) was mayor in Northeim and married to Anna von Uslar (1626–1686), daughter of the patrician and councilor to Goslar Levin von Uslar. Rumann's grandson Joachim Christoph (the younger, 1655–1727) was first Rittmeister in the ducal body regiment , and later mayor of Northeim.
