As assistance fireboat (HLB) is a class of fire-fighting boats called that on the Rhine , Main and Neckar are used. The first boat was the HLB Hecht as a prototype of the class, four other boats were built in a further developed version (among other things a little larger and with more powerful engines).

background

The construction of the boats goes back to a concept of the International Upper Rhine Commission for the construction of uniform fireboats for the individual sections of the Rhine. For the states of Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate , however, it quickly became clear that the plans would lead to boats that would require a lot of maintenance and training. For example, a Rhine boatman's license would have been necessary to drive the boats, a requirement that the volunteer fire brigades would not have been able to provide. Independent of the concept of the International Upper Rhine Commission, both countries therefore developed their own requirements for fireboats, with which both countries could also support each other.

The construction of the boats was put out to tender in autumn 2009 and the contract was finally awarded to the Neckar-Bootsbau shipyard in Neckarsteinach .

description

The pike as a prototype is 0.1 meters narrower than the following units and, with a height of 4.50 meters above the waterline, is also somewhat flatter compared to 4.65 meters in the following units. She is powered by two MAN diesel engines each with 463 kW power driven and reached a speed of 45 km / h. The construction of the ship cost 1.4 million euros.

The following units are driven by two MAN diesel engines with an output of 800 hp each. They reach a top speed of 67 km / h. The construction of the ships cost around 1.75 million euros each.

The ships are equipped with a power generator with an apparent power of 30 kVA . They have a centrifugal fire-fighting pump driven by an auxiliary motor with an output of 294 kW , which can deliver 10,000 l / min. The extinguishing armature can throw approx. 8,000 l / min approx. 90 m. The ships are equipped with a 1000 liter tank for foam compound to generate fire- fighting foam . In the fore section there is a crane that can handle max. Can lift 1.7 t. The maximum radius of the crane is 9 meters. At the bow there is an approximately 2.3 × 1.5 meter large bow hatch, at the stern a recovery platform.

The ships are equipped with explosion protection with automatic locking of the external doors. They also have searchlights and a floodlight system with a light mast . There are several submersible pumps on board, as well as chemical protection and survival suits, a defibrillator , a ventilation unit and an emergency backpack as fire fighting equipment .
