Hiltigund Schreiber

Hiltigund Schreiber (born March 31, 1939 in Vienna ) is an Austrian art historian , restorer and master nativity scene builder.

Life

Hiltigund Schreiber (birth name Stipek ) first studied at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences and finished her studies in agriculture as a graduate engineer with very good success. She then worked as a university assistant for microbiology and biochemistry at the Hygiene Institute of the University of Vienna . In 1966 she gave up her profession and dealt intensively with restoration , folklore and art history . In 1968 she completed her dissertation and received her doctorate in 1974 with distinction in the field of crop production .

In 1975 she completed her training in restoration at the Vienna Art School and Artistic Adult Education Center . From 1994 to 2009 Schreiber was the diocesan curator of the Archdiocese of Vienna and headed the department for church art and monument preservation . She also completed an apprenticeship as a crib builder.

She was married to Gerhard Schreiber , whose extensive crib collection she has managed since his death.

Awards

  • 1984: Awarded the Bronze Order of Stephen by the Archdiocese of Vienna
  • 1988: Appointment as " Consultant of the Upper Austrian state government for popular education and homeland care"
  • 1992: Award of the papal order " Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice "
  • 1992: Awarded the " Medal for Services to Monument Protection " from the Republic of Austria
  • 1992: Appointment as “nativity builder” by the Association of Crib Friends of Austria
  • 2009: Lower Austrian Security Merit Award from Raiffeisenlandesbank Niederösterreich-Wien and Niederösterreichische Versicherung
  • 2010: Award of the plaque of honor for special merits of the "Society of Friends and Patrons of the Lower Austria Gendarmerie"
