Hinrichshagen with Gazprom test drilling

The area around Hinrichshagen was already settled in the Bronze Age, as evidenced by numerous barrows and the discovery of a bowl stone in the area.

On July 1, 1950, the previously independent municipality of Oitschlott was incorporated.

Economy and Infrastructure

Gazprom test well

Agriculture and forestry shape Hinrichshagen to this day. The Russian gas company Gazprom planned the largest underground natural gas storage facility in Europe near Hinrichshagen . Here, five percent of Germany's annual demand for natural gas should be stored at a depth of around 650 meters. In the summer of 2008, extensive measurements and a test drilling were carried out to explore the geological subsurface. In 2010 it became known that the underground was not suitable for natural gas storage.

Hinrichshagen is a bit away from the national traffic connections. About Schwinkendorf and Moltzow which is federal highway 108 reached the town of Waren (Müritz) via Alt Schonau . The nearest train station with connections to Berlin , Rostock and Parchim is located in Waren (Müritz), around 17 kilometers away . Levenstorf station was on the Waren – Malchin line, which was opened in 1879 . The traffic there was stopped in 1996 and the line was closed two years later.
