Hinterwinkler cultural stage

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Hinterwinkler Kulturbühne, sometimes also called the Salzburger Kulturbühne, is an Austrian-German touring theater .

The theater was the Austrian financial officer Peter Willy Willmann founded and led from the 1980s to 2012 annually to everyone by Hugo von Hofmannsthal on Austrian and German locales, primarily on open-air stages . Willmann edited the text, directed, always played the main role himself and became a long-serving Jedermann.

Performance history

Willmann's enthusiasm for Hugo von Hofmannsthal's theatrical text led to the fact that - probably in the 1980s - he initiated a production of Jedermann with amateur actors in Grödig . He used his own, streamlined version of the text and founded the Hinterbänkler Kulturbühne , sometimes referred to as the Salzburger Kulturbühne . The performances initially took place on the Mayr-Melnhof 's estate at Schloss Glanegg .

Willmann's productions could be seen on various locations - mainly on open-air stages - in Austria and southern Germany . Professional actors, film and television stars could be engaged for the project. For example, Gerda de Vries , Hanna Schygulla , Lis Verhoeven or Jutta Speidel took on the role of mother. The voice of God was spoken - on tape - by Karl Blühm and Otto Sander . The last performance was in the historical costumes of the Salzburg Festival production of 1959.

Known are nine guest performances in the Brunnenhof of the Munich Residence as well as other performances at the following locations:

After the founder's death in autumn 2012, the troop's activities were discontinued.

criticism

The website of the Thurn und Taxis Castle Festival praised the “much-vaunted Salzburg production by Peter Willy Willmann”, which “ achieved cult status not only in Austria ”. “In the dream setting of the Princely Palace, this production becomes an opulent, plump, sensual theatrical experience: with carriage rides, torches and falcons, with music groups and the acrobatic performances of morris dancers.” But Willmann also had to accept bitter criticism: The reading group described the Munich performance of 2010 was a failure , but justified this mainly with poor visibility and poor technology. The criticism from Wiblingen 2011 criticized: “The appearances of Faith, Works and Devil are missing - because Willmann feels that the Christian threat authority of the devil is not up-to-date and in multicultural times as inappropriate”, but praises the performance of the fanatics: “On horseback she appears, wreathed with flowers and throwing roses, in a splendid robe with a billowing cleavage. ”On the other hand, the staging on the lake stage on Titisee impressed both nearly 1,500 viewers and the critic of the Badische Zeitung :“ The Austrians understand something about dying. You have a literature that represents a unique Ars Moriendi. The epitome of this doctrine of the good death, Hugo von Hofmannsthal's "Jedermann", could be admired on Saturday on the lake stage in Titisee. "

The Regensburg critic from 2011 was not exactly friendly: “[...] the sound quality left a lot to be desired. It creaked, cracked and rustled in the speakers. Leading actor Peter Willmann was sometimes hard to understand, which was perhaps also due to his poorly differentiated game. His Jedermann is primarily a screaming one. [...] Death resembled Darth Vader. Gudrun Landgrebe, everyone's mother, plays the rest of the small role with restraint and confidence. Christine Neubauer lives up to her reputation and plays the affection coarse and lush. "

Benefit

At least one charity performance for the Salzburg Children's Cancer Aid is guaranteed. It brought in a net donation of 65,000 schillings.
