Parish Church of the Holy Family

The Catholic Parish Church of the Holy Family is a church building in Oeventrop , a district of Arnsberg , in the Hochsauerlandkreis in North Rhine-Westphalia .

History and architecture

The church was built from 1898; it has three naves with a rectangular tower in front. The design comes from the Paderborn cathedral builder Arnold Güldenpfennig . Your blessing she received on 21 March 1899. Until then, there had been no chapel or church in the village. The faithful were previously cared for by the parish church of Wedinghausen in Arnsberg and, since 1859, by the parish church of Rumbeck . The respective chaplain of the Rumbeck mother parish lived in Oeventrop since 1900. In 1906 the parish received the rights of a branch parish with its own asset management. Oeventrop became an independent parish in 1921.

The building has been renovated several times. During the work in 1969, the neo-Gothic style was almost completely lost. During renovation work in 1993, a hanging cross was placed in the chancel. The old way of the cross was resumed and the Madonna was put back in its original place.

Furnishing

  • The high altar was erected during the church renovation in 1969. The relics of Saints Eoban and Adelar (also Adalar and Adolar) are inserted in it. These were also part of the old altar from 1899.
  • The sculpture Madonna and Child stands at the front of the right aisle . It was bought in 1923. In the course of the church renovation in 1969, the Marian altar was removed and it was placed in the sacristy . Today it is back at the previous place.
  • The painful mother is supposed to commemorate the fallen of the First World War , she stands under the tower.
  • The Holy Family is a bronze sculpture by the artist Erich Jaekel from Frankfurt. The half-relief has been in the church since 1975. Another representation of the Holy Family is in the middle window of the choir room . Both representations point to the patronage .
  • The glass artist Wilhelm Buschulte created two choir windows . The other neo-Gothic windows were designed by the cathedral builder Güldenpfennig, and they were executed by the glass painter's workshop Hertel und Lersch in Düsseldorf. The windows were badly damaged by the war. They were completely removed and re-used around 1949. In the course of the renovation in 1969 they almost fell victim. Wilhelm Buschulte explained: The church windows in the Nazarenes style fit the neo-Gothic church and are of such quality that they should not be removed or redesigned. Once again, they were expanded in 1976 and again eingebleit , and provided with a protective glazing. The windows show biblical figures and saints as well as the Holy Family.
  • The hanging cross in the chancel was inaugurated in 1984. Initially it was placed on the front of the right aisle. In 1993 it was hung in the center of the church. It comes from Val Gardena and was made by Vinzenz Demetz based on the example of the cross of San Damiano in Assisi. The cross beams are made from local oak.
  • The ringing consists of four bells, tuned to the Salve Regina motif c'-e'-g'-a '. The three big bells were made in 1946, the small bell in 1899.
