The Berghaus Hochschneeberg is a 55-bed mountain hotel on the Schneeberg in Lower Austria .

location

The mountain station of the Schneebergbahn with the Berghaus Hochschneeberg

The Berghaus is located on the east side of the wax bar at 1,800 meters, directly at the Hochschneeberg terminus of the cog railway up to the Schneeberg . The new mountain station of the Schneebergbahn was built next to the Berghaus in 2009.

view

On clear days there is a view of the Puchberg valley basin, the Leitha and Rosalien mountains . On particularly good days, guests can see far across Lake Neusiedl to the Little Hungarian Plain .

A vantage point on a steeply sloping rock pulpit on the slope in front of the hotel is known as a “scary place”. Its use requires experience with paths in steep rocky terrain, the safeguards that existed there at the beginning of the 20th century are no longer available.

history

The hotel was built in 1898 during the construction of the Schneebergbahn by the Imperial and Royal Austrian State Railways according to plans by the theater architects Helmer & Fellner . Already at that time it had a telephone connection and a post office with the stamp “Hochschneeberg”.

Berghotel Schneeberg with a horror spot

Emperor Franz Josef visited the hotel and the Elisabeth Church on June 18, 1902 .

The Berghaus was modernized after the Second World War, was owned by the ÖBB until 1997 and was then sold to a private individual. The properties in the vicinity belong (like the Schneeberg in general, because it belongs to the catchment area of the 1st Vienna High Spring Water Pipeline ) of the City of Vienna or, if they are used for railway operations, the Schneeberg Railway. Food and other needs of the Berghaus are delivered by cogwheel train. Since the installation of the water pipes on the Schneeberg in 2005/2006, there is also continuously fresh water in the Berghaus Hochschneeberg.
