The Naturfreundehaus Knofeleben (formerly Friedrich-Haller-Haus ) is a refuge of the Austrian nature lovers on the Knofeleben am Gahns in the Schneeberg area , Hirschwang an der Rax von Reichenau .
It lies at the foot of the Krummbachsteins .
history
The first hut was built by the tourist association Die Naturfreunde (TVN) as a house for friends of nature on the Knofeleben (also: Knofeleben hut ) and "opened for use" on July 16, 1922. In the 1950s, the house was renamed in honor of Friedrich Haller (1874–1943), the head of the Friends of Nature building committee. The house had 24 beds and 46 beds in the camp.
On April 8, 2011, the refuge, which was not managed at the time, burned down. Due to the lack of extinguishing water and strong wind, the fire fighting was difficult. The cause of the fire is not known.
On August 11, 2011 the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the new shelter took place; the shell was completed before winter 2011/12. The opening ceremony took place on May 6, 2012.
