The Fischerhütte is a refuge in the Neunkirchen section of the Austrian Tourist Club and is located on the Schneeberg plateau at 2049  m above sea level. A.

location

The fisherman's hut is at an altitude of 2049  m above sea level. A. and is thus the highest refuge in Lower Austria . The neighboring summit of the Kaiserstein ( 2061  m ) is reminiscent of the ascent of the Schneeberg by Emperor Franz I on August 10, 1805 and July 30, 1807. About 800 meters from the Fischerhütte is the monastery coat of arms ( 2076  m ), the highest Summit in Lower Austria.

history

The fisherman's hut was built in the 19th century. The following quote comes from the natural scientist Schultes from 1802 after a then still very strenuous journey to the "snow mountains in Lower Austria" .

“Unless someone builds a safe and comfortable hut on the Schneeberg, spending the night on the summit is too dangerous. A good barometer donated in such a hut with a thermometer, a hygrometer and a small board, on which the hikers, at least twenty of whom come up every summer, record the observed altitude and the degrees, would be very useful. "

83 years later, on July 19, 1885, his wish was realized by the Wiener Neustadt section of the Austrian Tourist Club. A small wooden hut, barely the size of a living room, was built near the Kaiserstein. The son-in-law of the alpinist Fischer von Röslerstamm donated 100 guilders and gave the fisherman's hut its name. 520 people are said to have been present at the opening. Constantly increasing tourism and, last but not least, the transport capacity of the rack railway required enlargements again and again. In 1899 the hut, which until then was under the ÖTK section Wiener Neustadt, was taken over by the headquarters of the ÖTK.

In June 1945 the hut, which had meanwhile grown into a house, burned down to the ground. The reconstruction required great financial sacrifices, and so on October 18, 1953 only a smaller version of the old fisherman's hut could be presented. Now the time for additions and renovations came again. In 1963 the new building was doubled. In 1974, the Neunkirchen section of the ÖTK took over the management and supervision of the hut, which it has held to this day. In 1975 the defective material ropeway was dismantled and a supply route from the rack railway was created. In 1981 the hut was equipped with electricity and a telephone connection. The last extension took place in 1991, which gave the hut its current appearance. In 2009 the water pipe and the canal could be relocated to the hut. An open WiFi hotspot for guests was implemented. Due to its exposed location, repair work on the hut is still necessary today. It is precisely this location that enables a panoramic view from the Dachstein to Lake Neusiedl when the weather is nice . Since constant renovations exceeded the financial possibilities of the ÖTK section Neunkirchen, the Vienna Central Office of the ÖTK recently took over the administration again.

From 1982 Renate Berndorfer managed the fisherman's hut as a tenant for 25 years . Michael Scheffer and his Kathi have been managing the hut since 2008.
