The Heinrich-Krempel-Hütte is looked after by the Vienna local office of the Austrian Mountain Rescue Service and is the only occupied base on the Hochschneeberg during the ski season, since all shelters are closed during the winter months.

history

At the beginning of the 1930s, in the wake of the growing popularity of alpine skiing and the increasing number of accidents on the Trenkwiesen run on the Schneeberg , one of the most popular ski runs in the vicinity of Vienna at the time , a patrol service of the mountain rescue service had to be introduced.

It is the first hut in Austria to be built exclusively for mountain rescue services (opened on October 24, 1937) and was named Heinrich-Krempel -Hütte after one of the pioneers of alpine rescue services .
