The Weichtalhaus is a refuge and an alpine training and climbing center run by Naturfreunde Wien at the southwestern foot of the Schneeberg in Lower Austria at an altitude of 547 m above sea level. A.
location
The Weichtalhaus is located next to the left bank of the Schwarza in Höllental and at the entrance to the Weichtalklamm as well as diagonally opposite the Großer Höllental .
history
The first Weichtalhaus was built by Naturfreunde Wien in the early 1920s and opened in 1922. It had to be closed at the end of October 2013, as the building stock was in a technical and economic state that could no longer be renovated. Before the demolition in autumn 2014, the hut offered around 70 beds (11 beds and 60 beds).
In 2014 and 2015, the new Weichtalhaus was built for around 1 million euros. This three-storey new building with 580 m² of usable space, designed, among other things, as a training and climbing center, has 70 beds (beds and beds), around 50 seats in the inner guest area and a seminar room for up to 50 people.
getting there

Tours
- Weichtalklamm-Steig; A climb with difficulty level A / B of via ferrata , which leads along the Weichtalgraben and is occasionally insured with short ladders, ropes and chains. From there you can go up to the Kienthalerhütte ( 1380 m ) and then up to the monastery coat of arms (a total of around 1500 meters in altitude). The Ferdinand-Mayr-Weg is ideal for an easy descent back to the Weichtalhaus.

- Via the Wachthütt (e) lkammsteig on the Rax massif to the Otto-Schutzhaus ( 1642 m ).
