The Hochstein is 1134  m above sea level. NHN high spur of the Heugstatt mountain ( 1262  m ) in the Bavarian Forest . Belonging to the Arber massif natural area, it is located in the municipality of Drachselsried in the Bavarian district of Regen .

The Hochstein rises northeast above the Zellertal with Drachselsried and the villages of Blachendorf , Rehberg , Oberried and Unterried, which belong to this municipality . The municipality of Arnbruck connects to the west, that of Lohberg to the north and that of Bodenmais to the south-east .

From its mighty rock bar with a summit cross , the view not only extends over the entire Zellertal, but also as far as the ridge of the Upper Bavarian Forest and the area of ​​the Bavarian Forest National Park with the Großer Rachel and in the opposite direction to the Kaitersberg . On clear days with the influence of the foehn, the view extends to the Alps .

Marked hiking trails from Arnbruck, Drachselsried, Oberried, Schareben and Bodenmais lead to the Hochstein , although the last section is quite steep and rocky.
