history

Hoehne was named after the German emigrant William "Dutch Bill" Hoehne. This first settled in the US state of Illinois . At the beginning of the 1860s at the latest, Hoehne moved further west. In today's local area, he built a mill and an irrigation ditch, today's Hoehne Ditch . In doing so, he laid the foundation for extensive irrigation of the area, which could then be used for agriculture. Mainly different types of fruit and sugar beets were grown. In the following years several shops, a post office and a forge opened in the village, and a church and a school were built.

At the beginning of the 20th century, several railway depots were built on the Trinidad - La Junta railway line , one of them in Hoehne. This depot was named Hoehnes and was in operation until 1967. Then it was first moved to another place in the village. In the 1990s the building was moved to the Texas Creek area and restored there as part of a private collection.
