The Hoengener Fließ is a stream that rises about 500 m south of Hoengen and flows into the Merzbach via Schleiden , Aldenhoven and Engelsdorf north of Koslar . The Hoengener Fließ mainly flows as a ditch next to field and sidewalks in the villages. The “river”, as it is usually called colloquially, has other small tributaries, which are usually only a few hundred meters long and are mostly used for irrigation.

There is a small sewage treatment plant on the river in Schleiden, which is used for local tap water purification. Water from the Hoengener Fließ is also used. Otherwise it usually runs within the localities, which is a sign that the Hoengener Fließ has had its current course for at least 1000 years. Not much more is known about the flow, however, and it is also not a goal of major investigations.

Within the localities, the Hoengener Fließ is developed like a channel, while outside the localities it flows more like a trench in the fields.
