The Hofbach is a stream less than a kilometer long in the area of the municipality of Frankenhardt in the district of Schwäbisch Hall in northeastern Baden-Württemberg , which flows into the middle Speltach less than half a kilometer below the river bridge at Unterspeltach from the right and east-southeast .

geography

course

The Hofbach arises at about 463  m above sea level. NHN below the small road pass between the wooded peaks Schwabenberg in the west and Butzenbach in the east next to the municipal road from Betzhof over to Unterspeltach . Two rows of fruit trees separate it from the road for a good hundred meters along the course of the stream, along which it moves to the north, down the slope. It then flows another hundred meters northwest in the left ditch of the road. Then the Hofbach crosses under the municipal road, whereupon its trench, which now runs a quarter of a kilometer north-northwest, separates the Hofäcker corridor on the left and the Great Wolfsblade on the right. The stream passes under the K 2641 Unterspeltach– Jagstheim and continues in an almost northerly direction in increasingly flat terrain. At intervals there are trees on the bare ditch below the first road crossing. Finally the Hofbach flows out at about 412  m above sea level. NHN , less than 400 meters below the river bridge of the K 2640 near Unterspeltach, from the right into the lower Speltach .

The inflowless Hofbach reaches the Speltach about 51 meters below its origin after a 0.8 km long run with an average bed gradient of around 63 ‰.

Catchment area

The catchment area of the Hofbach, which extends in a sharp wedge towards the mouth, is about 0.2 km² and extends at the highest watershed in the south on both sides of the small pass at the Südwesteck on the Schwabenberg to about 493  m above sea level. NHN , at the southeast corner on the Butzenbergspitze up to 484.6  m above sea level. NHN . At these heights in front of the headwaters of the Brunnenbach , a Jagst tributary, there is forest. Behind it on the right slope of the Speltachtal in the upper area there are mainly fields, closer to the river there are mixed meadows and fields. The next upper left tributary of the Speltach is the Schmindbach , although there is no contact with its catchment area; below it has only an inflow from the right from unstable water-bearing ditches.

The catchment area in the Honhardt suburb of the municipality of Frankenhardt is completely uninhabited and, in terms of its natural surroundings , belongs to the lower area of the Burgberg Vorhöhen and Speltach Bay of the Swabian-Franconian Forest Mountains . Lower colored marl ( Steigerwald Formation ) lie in two islands on the two heights in the south, underneath the reed sandstone ( Stuttgart Formation ) extends to about the road crossing, after which the Gipskeuper ( Grabfeld Formation ) extends to the flat Speltachaue the alluvial clay lies.
