history

At the beginning of the 16th century, Ludwig Senfl united a music ensemble called Hofkapelle München. In 1556, Duke Albrecht V of Bavaria appointed Orlando di Lasso to head the court orchestra, which established the reputation as a top ensemble for the next 200 years. Agostino Steffani , Pietro Torri and Evaristo Dall'Abaco later worked at the Munich court. In 1777, after the heir to the throne, Elector Karl-Theodor (Charles II), the merger with the Mannheim court orchestra took place . Today's Bavarian State Orchestra developed from this . In remembrance of the Elector's court orchestra, the New Court Chapel in Munich was brought into being in 1992 under the direction of Christoph Hammer . In 2009 this ensemble was reorganized as the Munich Court Orchestra under the direction of the baroque violinist and conductor Rüdiger Lotter .

In cooperation with the Bavarian Theater Academy August Everding , the orchestra regularly accompanied productions of the 17th or 18th century until 2013, such as Reinhard Keiser's Fredegunda and WA Mozart's Così fan tutte in 2007, Henry Purcell's The Fairy-Queen and Antonio Vivaldi's Orlando furioso in 2009 . In 2011, Didone abbandonata by Johann Adolph Hasse was performed again in the Munich Prinzregententheater in collaboration with the Hasse-Gesellschaft München after 250 years. This production appeared in the theater of Versailles in March 2012.
