Christiane Karg (born August 6, 1980 in Feuchtwangen ) is a German opera, lied, concert and oratorio singer ( soprano ).

Life

Christiane Karg is the oldest of three daughters of Feuchtwang's master confectioner Friedrich Karg and his wife Helga, who introduced their children to music culture at an early age. Christiane Karg received piano and flute lessons at a young age and attended opera performances. She received singing lessons from the age of 14. In 1994 and 1996 she won the Bavarian State Prize for Singing. As part of the Jugend musiziert competition , she won the federal prize in the early music category .

After graduating from high school, Christiane Karg studied singing with Heiner Hopfner at the Mozarteum Salzburg and also completed the lied class with Wolfgang Holzmair . This was followed by a six-month stay at the Conservatory in Verona , where she continued her education in the Italian repertoire. In January 2008, she completed her studies in opera / music theater at the Mozarteum and was awarded the Lilli Lehmann medal for this. Karg completed master classes with Grace Bumbry , Robert Holl , Mirella Freni , Ann Murray, among others .

In 2006 Christiane Karg made her debut at the Salzburg Festival with the Mozart roles of Melia in Apollo and Hyacinth and the Weltgeistes in Die Schuldigkeit des Erste Gebots . A year later she also appeared at the Festival as Madame Silberklang in Der Schauspieldirektor and as Bastienne in Bastien and Bastienne .

After an engagement at the Hamburg Opera Studio, the soprano moved to the Frankfurt Opera at the beginning of the 2008/2009 season . Here she sang Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro , Musetta in La Bohème and Pamina in Die Zauberflöte . Christiane Karg also made guest appearances at the Theater an der Wien as Ismene in Mitridate , at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich as Ighino in the opera Palestrina (under Simone Young ), at the Komische Oper Berlin as Musetta in La Bohème and as Norina in Don Pasquale . In 2010 Karg appeared at the Salzburg Festival as Amor in Orpheus and Eurydike under the direction of Riccardo Muti . Christiane Karg also appears as a concert, lied and oratorio singer. Her repertoire includes works by Johann Sebastian Bach , Georg Friedrich Händel , Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart , Josef Haydn , Franz Schubert , Giovanni Battista Pergolesi , Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy and Gustav Mahler . She made guest appearances with the orchestra of the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival and Georg Friedrich Handel's Messiah in Spain and Brazil as well as with Carl Maria von Weber's L'accoglienza at the Semperoper in Dresden .

Concerts at music festivals under the direction of Enoch zu Guttenberg , Claus Peter Flor and Nikolaus Harnoncourt took Christiane Karg to Augsburg, Nuremberg, Salzburg, Munich, Röttingen and Herrenchiemsee. She gave recitals at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the Lower Saxony Music Days , the Heidelberg Spring , the Schubertiade Vilabertran , the Cologne Philharmonic , the Wiener Musikverein and others. a. m. In December 2009 she organized a Christmas tour with the Windsbacher Boys' Choir .

In 2012 Christiane Karg could be heard as a soloist with the NDR Symphony Orchestra at the opening concert of the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival. The program featured Edvard Grieg's Peer Gynt in a version by Austrian actor Klaus Maria Brandauer under the direction of Thomas Hengelbrock . The concert took place in the Lübeck Music and Congress Hall.

Since 2014, Christiane Karg has been the artistic director of the KunstKlang festival in Feuchtwangen , a series of concerts in different locations in her hometown. In addition, she is committed to her project be part of it! - Music for Everyone for teaching music to children and young people.
In April 2018 she was Brahms price of the Brahms Society Schleswig-Holstein eV awarded.
