Hohenbergen is a district of the city and rural community of Nottertal-Heilinger Heights in the Unstrut-Hainich district in Thuringia .

geography

The district with 185 inhabitants is located 278 meters above sea level at the foot of the Heilinger Heights in the northwest of the Thuringian Basin in a traditional arable farming area. Hohenbergen is located southwest of Schlotheim on Landesstraße 2096 about 10 kilometers east of Mühlhausen .

history

The first documentary mention took place in 1170, the city and the district go from 1359. The settlement once belonged to the Lords of Körner. After war destruction, the village came to the Volkenroda monastery in 1433 . In 1533 the place was destroyed in the Peasants' War. From 1545 the place belonged to the Saxon office of Volkenroda , which belonged as an exclave to the Duchy of Saxe-Gotha from 1645 , from 1672 to the Duchy of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg and from 1826 to the Duchy of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha . In 1920 Hohenbergen came to the state of Thuringia.

In 1994 Hohenbergen was incorporated into the town of Schlotheim , which merged with other communities on December 31, 2019 to form the town and rural community of Nottertal-Heilinger Höhen.
