The Seeshaupt is a day trip boat in regular service on Lake Starnberg . It replaced the Seeshaupt of the same name from 1955, which was decommissioned and scrapped in 2011. The ship is operated by Bayerische Seenschifffahrt . The christening took place on July 13, 2012 in Seeshaupt by Karin Baumüller-Söder, the wife of the Bavarian Finance Minister. The construction costs were given as 6.5 million euros.

history

The name of the successor ship of the Seeshaupt from 1955 was determined by a vote by the population on the website of the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation . For the new ship, the old name prevailed with 57 percent, ahead of “Possenhofen” (30 percent) and “Tutzing” (13 percent).

After being launched in February 2012, the ship was towed from Mondorf on the Rhine to Wörth near Karlsruhe . There it was divided alongside and brought with low loaders over the autobahn to Starnberg , 300 km away . There the hull was reassembled and the final construction carried out.

Two weeks after her christening, the Seeshaupt , which was not occupied by passengers at the time, rammed its stern on July 27, 2012 during a backward maneuver into the terrace jetty of the Undosa restaurant in Starnberg, which was occupied by around 20 guests and is located near the jetty. Five local guests were slightly injured. The ship was temporarily taken out of service. The responsible public prosecutor ordered a technical report, as a technical defect could be the cause of the accident. According to the shipping manager Walter Stürzl, the cause of the accident was determined to be the captain, who “noticed too late that the engines were disengaged and that no forward thrust was possible”.
