Mehrstedt is a district of the city and rural community of Nottertal-Heilinger Höhen in the Unstrut-Hainich district in Thuringia .

geography

The clustered village of Mehrstedt is located northeast of Schlotheim in a long valley at the foot of the southern roof of the Dün (Heimberg: 334 m) on the edge of the Thuringian basin . To the northeast are the foothills of the Hainleite and to the south the Heilinger heights . To the south, the federal highway 249 leads from Mühlhausen to Ebeleben with a connection for the village.

history

The place was first mentioned in 1130. Horse breeding has a great tradition. There were once village craftsmen for every trade. The church from the 17th century is a gem . The place is surrounded by a hedge, which was once a historical protective wall. Until 1918, the place with the neighboring Schlotheim belonged to an exclave of the subordinate rule of the Principality of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt .

After 1990 the place was completely renovated and the hedge is still standing.

traffic

The Mehrstedt stop was on the Ebeleben – Mühlhausen railway line . Passenger traffic on the Ebeleben - Schlotheim section was stopped in 1974. Freight traffic was stopped at the end of 1994.
