The Hohe Knuck is a 539 meter high mountain in the Spessart in the Bavarian district of Aschaffenburg in the municipality-free area Rohrbrunner Forst .

geography

The Hohe Knuck is about 3.5 km northeast of the highest Spessart summit, the Geiersberg . The river Hafenlohr runs from west to east in an arc around the northern mountain slopes. In the south, the Hohe Knuck goes flat to the Bayerskopf (523 m) and the Bayersberg (517 m). This is where the border with the Main-Spessart district runs . The 120 hectare nature reserve Hoher Knuck nature reserve is located on the Hohen Knuck .

An inn in Lichtenau is named after the mountain .

High Knuck natural forest reserve

The Hoher Knuck natural forest reserve is located on the eastern slopes of the mountain of the same name. It borders the Fürstlich Löwensteinschen Park in the Main-Spessart district . The old beech forest on the Hohen Knuck was designated as a reserve in 1978 and expanded to the current size of 121.8 hectares in 1998. In 2001 the government of Lower Franconia designated the natural forest reserve as a nature reserve.

The forest consists mainly of red beech and sessile oak . Smaller areas are planted with younger Douglas firs and spruces . On the north-eastern edge of the natural forest reserve, the circular arrangement of a Meilerplatz can still be seen. The reserve was rounded off and a forest path that ran through the area was dismantled.
