Until December 2006, Holmegaard Kommune was a Danish municipality in what was then Storstrøms Amt on the island of Zealand . Since January 2007 it has been part of the new Næstved Municipality together with the “old” Næstved Municipality , Fuglebjerg Municipality , Fladså Municipality and Suså Municipality .

Holmegaard is the Danish member of the European Charter - Villages of Europe , a group of rural communities from all 28 EU countries.
