Holzen is in the west of the city of Schwerte. In the west, the federal motorway 1 forms the border.

In a clockwise direction, Holzen borders on the Dortmund district of the same name as well as on Schwerte , Wandhofen and Westhofen .

history

When the offices were set up in the Prussian province of Westphalia, the municipality of Holzen belonged to the Westhofen office in the Dortmund district . On April 1, 1887, she moved to the newly formed district of Hörde . When this was dissolved on August 1, 1929, Holzen came to the Iserlohn district . On the occasion of the municipal and district reform in North Rhine-Westphalia , the previous municipality was divided on January 1, 1975. Dortmund received 5.62 km² with then 5259 inhabitants. 1.91 km² with a population of 3,100 at that time were reclassified to the town of Schwerte. The A 1 federal motorway was set as the new border between Dortmund and Schwerte.

In 1987 the Holzen district of Schwerter had a total of 3826 inhabitants.
