The Holzgraben is a 6.5 km long, western and left tributary of the Fulda . It flows through Ober- and Niederellenbach in the Hersfeld-Rotenburg district in eastern Hesse .
course
The headwaters of the Holzgraben and its first tributaries are the Neuenstein-Ludwigsecker mountain range (natural area 357.0), which belongs to the extreme southwest of the Fulda-Werra mountainous region (357) and thus to the Knüllgebirge (Knüll) in the broader sense. Its source is located on the eastern slope of the Rehkopf ( 487.5 m ) 3.5 km southwest of the Alheim district of Oberellenbach in the central core valley at 419 m above sea level. NHN .
Four small tributaries, which come from the north-east and east slopes of the Rehkopf and from the transition area to the Nuschhütte ( 447.8 m ) from the Finsteren and Lichten Kerntal , feed the upper reaches of the Holzgraben near the source. They all initially flow approximately in a northeasterly direction and flow into the stream near the former glassworks west of Sterkelshausen . Then the Holzgraben runs a bit in a northerly direction and into the Bebra-Melsunger Fulda valley (357.1). Therein comes the Trombach southwest of Oberellenbach at the settlement Am Hüttenhof from the left (west). Then the stream flows to the northeast and through Oberellenbach, where it runs along the streets Oberer and Unterer Erlenbach in the sewer system.
At the Ried mill below Oberellenbach, the wooden ditch takes on the Osterbach coming from Sterkelshausen on the right. Then it flows, continuing in a north-easterly direction, along the south-east side of the county road 67 to and through Niederellenbach . A few meters below the eastern edge of the village and above the K 67 bridge over the Fulda , the stream flows into this Weser source river.
Catchment area and tributaries
The catchment area of the Holzgraben is 15.22 km². Its flow rate is 105 l / s . The tributaries include the Trombach on the left and the Osterbach on the right.
