Oberellenbach is a district of the municipality of Alheim in the Hersfeld-Rotenburg district in eastern Hesse .
geography
Oberellenbach lies on the edge of the Knüllgebirge on the Holzgraben , a tributary of the Fulda .
history
The village is mentioned for the first time in 1146. In 1939 the village had 401 inhabitants and belonged to the Rotenburg (Fulda) district .
As part of the regional reform in Hesse , Oberellenbach was merged with nine other villages on August 1, 1972 to form the newly founded community of Alheim.
Culture and sights
- The fortified church and the mining trail are well worth seeing . The former barite mine Gottessegen can be visited.
- In 2000 Oberellenbach won the “European Village Renewal Award” and in 2006 the “Our Village” award.
