Hondo is a city and seat of the county seat of Medina County in the US state of Texas in the United States .

The city is located on US Highway 90 in central county, in south-central Texas, 65 km west of San Antonio and has a total area of 24.9 km 2 , of which 0.1 km 2 is water.
Demographic data
According to the 2000 census, 7,897 people lived here in 2,207 households and 1,664 families. The population density was 317.9 people per km 2 . The racial the population was composed of 73.33% White, 8.33% African American, 0.47% Native American, 0.25% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, and 15.23% other ethnic groups. About 2.38% were mixed race and 59.92% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
