Horst Müller (publisher)

Horst Müller (born August 5, 1932 in Braunschweig , † March 24, 2016 in Aurich ) was a German bird keeper, author and publisher with a focus on parrots . He is considered a pioneer of West German parrot literature.

The Horst Müller-Verlag , founded in Braunschweig in 1968 and based in Bomlitz from 1981 , published numerous books on parrots. Around 1973 - still with the place of publication Braunschweig - Colored Atlas Parrots by Wolfgang de Grahl . The Encyclopedia of Parrots and Parakeets , which was divided into numerous volumes and divided into species groups, appeared later, the first volume of which by Horst Bielfeld deals with the genus Agapornis . The authors of the other volumes and supplementary volumes include numerous well-known parrot authors, including Karl Diefenbach , Eckhard Lietzow , Renate Ehlenbröker and Jörg Ehlenbröker , Hans Strunden , Thomas Arndt , Angelika Fergenbauer-Kimmel , Georg A. Radtke and Werner Lantermann . In 1988 Horst Müller founded the Arndt & Müller publishing house together with Thomas Arndt, which continues to exist today as Arndt-Verlag . From 1988 to 1990 the journal Parrots was published by Horst Müller-Verlag , which was then continued to be published by Arndt-Verlag and is still published today.

In addition to his work as a publisher and author, Horst Müller was also known as a photographer. Many of his bird photos come from the Walsrode bird park , where he was temporarily considered to be the “house photographer”. The square calendars and the postcards with bird motifs from Horst Müller-Verlag were known throughout Europe. In 1977 he succeeded in the first German breeding of the White-fronted Parrot ( Amazona albifrons ).
