Bruno Agostinelli Jr. (born April 1, 1987 in Niagara Falls (Ontario) , † March 9, 2016 in Toronto ) was a Canadian tennis player .

Life and athletic career

Agostinelli was interested in tennis as a child and was accepted into the Ontario Junior Squad at the White Oaks Tennis Club at the age of six . The right-hander achieved several titles and national and international successes. In 2000, he became a mixed doubles champion at the International Junior Orange Bowl Championship in Coral Gables , Florida . In 2001 he won the Ontario Provincial Championship and the Canadian National Championship in both singles and doubles . As a former member of Team Canada , he competed in several games of the Junior International Tennis Federation worldwide.

A student at Saint Paul Catholic High School in Niagara Falls, Agostinelli was inducted into the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) rankings and won an OFSAA gold medal in mixed doubles in 2005. That same year he signed a full sports scholarship to the University of Kentucky , where he later became the captain of the Wildcats men's tennis team . In 2009 he won the Southeastern Conference's Freshman of the Year and the Player of the Week Awards , was ranked 2nd as captain of his team in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and was awarded the 2009 Mr. Wildcat at UK's from the University of Kentucky CATSPY Awards , the highest award for sports students , named Athlete of the Year.

Agostinelli represented Canada in the play-offs in the relegation at Club Lawn Tennis De La Exposicion in Lima in the Americas Zone Group I against Peru in 2009 . Although he lost to Luis Horna in round 2 , he won the decisive fifth point against Iván Miranda in four sets in the tie-break and thus secured his country 2nd place in the group standings.

After the Rogers Cup Masters in Montreal in 2009, Agostinelli finished his professional career as an All-American and won a variety of junior titles at the state and national level. By 2010 he climbed to 978th ​​place in the ATP Singles Rankings and 870th place in the ATP Doubles Rankings . He then coached the juniors under 14 in the Junior National Program in Toronto for Tennis Canada .

Agostinelli died on March 9, 2016 at the age of 28 as a result of a motorcycle accident. He left behind his wife Andrea and his son Alessio, who was only two weeks old at the time.
